For the most part, ex-service personnel are the ordinary men and women who might live next door. They may not always be immediately identifiable as having served their country but they have all spent a sustained period of their lives subscribing to the ordered and somewhat restricted life within the armed services.

Whilst in service they were sent whenever and wherever their skillset was required, often having little or no input as to where that may be. Although the average posting was three years they could be in a post from anywhere between one and five years or longer, until eventually they leave and begin the process of putting down roots in ‘Civvy Street’.
